Marriage Licence & Certificate Information
Buttercup Celebration Hall is authorized to sell and issue marriage licences and certificates in accordance with Manitoba Vital Statistics Canada.

Licence & Certificate Details:
A $100 fee applies — this covers the form, envelope, stamp, and mailing. This fee is required to provide the licence.
Forms cannot be picked up — they must be completed in person with the issuer at Buttercup Celebration Hall.
Limited forms available — new stock may take up to 2 weeks to arrive.
Please read all information below carefully before booking an appointment.
Important Requirements:
Ceremony must take place in Manitoba.
Both parties must be present when purchasing the marriage licence.
You do not need to reside in Manitoba to get married here.
Licence must be issued at least 24 hours before the ceremony.
Licence is valid for 3 months from date of issue.
Bring all required documents — incomplete applications cannot be refunded by Vital Statistics.
Before You Arrive:
1. Do both parties have valid ID?
ID must be original or notarized/confirmed copies.
Must show proof of identity, age, and current legal name.
Acceptable ID includes:
Driver’s Licence
Passport
Permanent Resident Card
MPI Identification Card
Certificate of Indian Status
If the name on the above ID is not your current full legal name, you must also bring one of the following:
Birth Certificate
Canadian Citizenship Certificate
Canadian Immigration Document (e.g. study/work permit, visitor visa)
Social Insurance Numbers (SIN) are not accepted.
2. Previously Married?
Divorced: Must provide one of the following:
Certificate of Divorce (with final dissolution date, not a judgement that states 30 days from this date)
Decree Absolute (not Decree Nisi)
Widowed: Must provide one of the following:
Death Certificate
Funeral Director’s Statement of Death
3. Under 18 Years Old?
16–17 years old: Must have a completed Consent to Marriage form.
15 and under: Must have written consent from a Family Court judge.
4. Mental Capacity to Marry
If either party is under a committee under The Mental Health Act, written confirmation from a doctor stating that they understand the nature of marriage is required.
-Please ensure all documents are in order before your appointment.
-Forms must be filled out at Buttercup Celebration Hall with our issuer — they cannot be taken home or filled out independently.
-Incorrect or missing documentation may result in delays or rejection of your application.
